One of the first questions Mike will ask a prospective athlete is “what does success look like for you?”. For some, this will be completing a 5km run or their first triathlon, for others it may be achieving a GB Age Group selection and for some it could be a world championship medal. Mike provides the same levels of enthusiasm and professional support to all athletes, regardless of what their success looks like.
Backed by a career in education, Mike endeavours to not only coach his athletes, but also help develop the knowledge and understanding of why things are done and the reasoning behind it. With a background in sports science and a keen interest in performance physiology, Mike keeps a watchful eye on modern trends in the sports science and sports performance world and he ensures his athletes are aware of the latest training principles and how they may help improve athletic performance.
Distance is not an issue, Mike coaches athletes locally, but also remotely too, with athletes in the UK, USA and Europe at present. His knowledge, skill base and experiences ensure he is comfortable working with both male and female athletes and he has a strong understanding of the differing physiological requirements of the female athlete. Age is also not an issue with young athletes right through to the older athlete both being well cared for and he has proven successful results from both ends of the age range.
Mike has a very successful record of working with athletes who are over the age of 40 and he fully understands the different approaches and training structures needed to ensure that all athletes can achieve their goals.
